1) What are the advantages of using PV panels?
Ans: PV panels are very reliable and needs little maintenance. It generates electricity without causing any pollution to the environment, and without the need for any fuel.
   
2) Where can I buy PV panels?
Ans: Solar panels are commercially available products. You can easily find a number of suppliers by searching through the Internet. Some of the PV panel manufacturers have dealers in Hong Kong. Some information is available in the Equipment Supply section of this website.
   
3) Can I connect my PV system to the AC distribution board of the building?
Ans: Yes, a PV system with a grid-tie inverter can be connected to the electrical distribution system of the building, provided the system fulfills the technical and safety requirements set by the power company. An application has to be made to the power company concerned for such kind of "grid-connection" arrangement.
   
4) What size of a PV system do I need, for supplying standalone loads?
Ans: The size of a standalone PV system depends on the loading requirements. Please go through the Solar PV - Application Consideration section of this website to get an idea on how to estimate the size of the PV system required.
   
5) How long do PV panels last?
Ans: PV panels do not have any moving parts, and normally should last for more than 25 years.
